Hamilton: Malta ‘ideal base’ for hedge fund incubation and accessing EuropeApr 01 2014 1 Comment
Since joining the EU in 2004, Malta went on a rapid course to develop its financial services sector on the island and bring it on an equal footing with other European financial centres, particularly as a fund domicile.

He is also managing director of Hogg Capital Investments Limited, a Malta domiciled and regulated investment adviser and portfolio manager. Educated respectively in Malta, Kenya and in the United Kingdom, he graduated with honours in Economics and Politics & Government in 1980 from the University of Kent at Canterbury, England. Prior to establishing Hogg Capital in 1995, his career principally in London spanned roles in investment analysis, securities’ dealing and institutional sales, respectively for Charles Stanley & Company Limited, Citicorp Scrimgeour Vickers, and Prudential Bache Capital Funding. Ian Hamilton is chairman of the Scotstone Group. Founded in 2007, the Scotstone Group provides a number of key services to international hedge funds. Scotstone currently has 15 funds and assets of $400m. IDS Malta provides the administration support. Ian is also Group CEO of the IDS Group which commenced in March 2002 as a specialized administration service provider. With the assistance of leading international hedge fund administrators, IDS began offering hedge fund administration to the South African market in June 2003. At that point the SA hedge fund market was only beginning. The service, based upon best international practice, has been well received. IDS currently administers over $6 billion (70 %) of the SA hedge fund market, and there are 160 funds under management. The company also provides specialized custodian services to fund of hedge funds, assets under custody exceed $2bn. IDS Group also offers services to Private Equity funds, institutionally marketed unit trusts and Middle Office Services to the full spectrum of Investment funds. IDS Group’s offices include Malta and representatives in Mauritius and London in addition to the main office in Cape Town. A further $1bn is under administration in these locations. [less]
