Bulldog investors has launched over 35 full proxy fights since 1996, more than any other firm in that timeframe, earning a reputation as a prominent activist investing firm. Phil Goldstein sued the SEC in 2005, resulting in the Goldstein v SEC decision. This historic case ruled that the SEC overstepped its limits when it tried to force hedge funds into mandatory registration.
