High Frequency Trading was also controversially discussed at our Opalesque 2011 Boston Roundtable. I highly recommend downloading the Roundtable script here:

I finally heard an interview from someone who speaks to truth, perhaps there is hope for mankind...but I doubt it. HFT is truly a scourge, a plague that could destroy what remains of any trust lingering in today's "markets". I'm a professional trader who aspires to running my own fund someday so you're not hearing from a disgruntled loser. The destruction of real markets by HFT is a very serious issue that regulators and exchanges seem to ignore because someone upstairs has told them to. In fact, that's a recurring theme across the spectrum of all authority institutions today, that common sense and logic are rationalized away in favor of greed. I see little hope, frankly, as almost all leadership positions are seemingly occupied by narcissistic psychopaths. Wake up folks. We are living in a world of severe adverse selection of authority figures. And if this trend doesn't reverse in short order I see no hope.
