IPM (Informed Portfolio Management) was formed in 1998 and manages approximately US$ 6.5 billion in assets on behalf of large institutional investors such as sovereigns, pension funds, insurance companies and foundations. The Stockholm based investment manager offers macro and equity portfolio solutions that are both fundamental and systematic by design. IPM is regulated by the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority and has 40 employees, of which close to half are involved in the research process.
Hear Anders Lindell, IPM’s CEO and CIO, talk about:
- IPM's evolution from a Global Tactical Asset Allocation provider to one of Europe's leading funds
- IPM's unique approach: "fundamental, but systematic", the role of fair value
- Why CTAs aren't enough (and should be complemented) to effectively hedge institutions' equity exposure
- How IPM managed to deliver strong performance in each of the crisis years 2008, 2009 and 2010
- No Fear: Why IPM happily discloses its model to investors.
In contrast to many other systematic managers, IPM is not afraid to disclose its model to investors – it is not supposed to be a “black box”. The firm did not suffer any redemptions during the financial crisis, despite offering same liquidity terms as CTAs or other macro funds.
Anders Lindell is IPM’s CEO and CIO. He bears the overall responsibility for investments and holds a seat on IPM’s Risk Management committee and chairs the Investment committee. Before co-founding IPM in 1998, Anders worked in the Fixed Income Trading division at JP Bank. He started his career in the financial markets in 1991 working as an independent consultant. Anders holds an M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering and Management from the Institute of Technology at Linköping University and an M.Sc. in Management from MIT Sloan School of Management.
