Dr. Vinay Nair is a former Wharton professor whose work in academia focused on bridging the two fields of asset pricing and corporate finance within the mainstream world of finance and economics. He transitioned his academic experience to a passion for investment management, starting his investment company, Ada Investments, in 2008, with a next-generation systematic trading methodology utilizing a series of rule-based systems, the systematic equivalent of a prop-desk.
In this Opalesque.TV interview, Dr. Nair describes his academic experience in studying behavioral finance and corporate finance and linking them into asset pricing to predict events of interest to investors. His research identified the value of looking beyond the balance sheet to incorporate extra-financial variables. In presenting his research to investment management companies he also recognized the limitations of quantitative and multi-trader, or multi-strategy funds, who struggle to not only keep the best traders but maintain psychological consistency among traders. His systematic trading strategy seeks to incorporate extra-financial variables while addressing this issue of trader consistency by utilizing his rule-based systems.
In addition, learn about the following:
Can extra-financial variables provide alpha?
How research shows extra-financial variables can enhance valuations and lead to sustainability
"Old school" socially responsible investing versus emerging new paradigms of sustainability investing
Knowledge transfer to emerging markets
Combining local emerging market data platforms with sophisticated
systematic tradings strategies
The evolution of quantitative strategies
